The “Fruit Shop” is the beginning of our video production series of films that centres around traditional trades that we are seeing disappear from our high streets. Whether it is through internet shopping, Super Markets taking trade or shop rents getting ever more expensive, these shops, which were often a cornerstone of the community are finding it hard to survive. We have met and filmed quite a few who are fighting back and sharing with us a bit of a history lesson into where they have come from and how they are still trading.
Bert Allcock is based in Quinton Birmingham and has been a Greengrocer for most of his life. In this little film, he sheds some light on how he set up the business and how having pride in what you do, no matter what sort of job it is, is how we should live our lives.
Hope you enjoy the short film below.
