Our Favourite Christmas Ads of 2019

Welcome to another Christmas advert post.  I have to say 2019 has been a bit of a struggle when it comes to our favourites but we have a top 5 at least.

5. A heartwarming Christmas advert by a local hardware shop in Wales has gone viral.

Starring a two-year-old boy called Arthur, the advert by Hafod Hardware based in Rhayader, Powys, has left viewers in tears – and to add to the hugely positive reaction, the advert cost just £100 to produce.

4.  Sainsbury’s has focused on the humble beginnings of a young boy called Nicholas, 150 years ago in an epic advert.

Marking the supermarket’s 150th anniversary, the heartwarming ad – depicting a Dickensian London – opens around the first ever Sainsbury’s store back in 1869.

3. Sky has brought the famous alien, E.T, back down to earth for their Christmas advert, 37 years after Steven Spielburg’s iconic 1982 film, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, was released.

The magical Christmas campaign, which features original cast member Henry Thomas, shows E.T arriving back at Elliot’s house, looking for him in the garden. Much to E.T’s surprise, Elliot’s two young children greet him outside but scream as they don’t know who he is.

2. Ikea’s first ever Christmas advert, titled ‘Silence The Critics’

Ikea’s Christmas advert deliberately goes against the tide of sentimental Christmas ads, and aims to ‘delight audiences with its humorous, irreverent take on festive hosting’. But has the Swedish furniture retailer succeeded?

The advert sets the scene with a family of three living in a small flat. The woman’s phone pings and it’s a message from her friend, confirming that they’re still on for dinner at her home tonight. Racked with ‘home shame’, she hesitates before replying, looking around at the state of the flat.

 

1. Morrisons has unveiled a heartwarming Christmas advert that pulls on the heart strings of many.

Unlike other high-budget Christmas adverts, the film idea was pitched to the supermarket by its very own staff members, Pam Abbott and Bev Kelly, who wanted to highlight the importance of helping the homeless and those in need at Christmas.
